A stalwart Stonor with its brazenly Republican skipper greeted a buoyant, Monarchical Swyncombe on Jubilee Monday to

commence battle on a somewhat soggy, unpredictable wicket. The glories of Saturdayís imperial weather were fading as

Stonorís batting got of to an unglamorous start in the face of a royal bowling attack from D. Mew who deserved better

figures for his efforts. As soon as Mew came off the run rate soared (like the ever watchful Red Kites) and Stonor captain

P Kelso shook Syncombeís otherwise cavalier bowling attack with a robustly Roundhead 67 supported by useful contributions

from Fennells senior (18) and junior (17). However, the major weapon in Stonorís armoury was the excellent Jubilee BBQ from

which Swyncombe never fully recovered. J. Whittingtonís Cromwellian ruthlessness with the ball (6 for 22) and D. Fennellís

conspiratorial 3 for 18 aided by a well drilled New Model Army in the field toppled many a Swyncombe throne until the visitorís

batting was declining and falling all over the place. Only P. Markham kept his feathers bristling until they were eventually bent

out of shape by J. Whittington in the penultimate over.
