Match : Stonor vs. Coppid Hall
Date : Saturday 12th July 2003
Venue : Stonor Cricket Club
Result : Stonor won by 7 wickets

The fixture between Stonor and Coppid Hall earlier in the year had been called off due to poor weather, in stark contrast to the glorious afternoon which

greeted both teams on Sunday. The hard Stonor pitch definitely favoured the batsmen and it was Coppid Hall who won the toss and elected to set a total for

the home side to chase. As Stonor had only 10 men Coppid kindly called their 12th man, Neil McCoubrey, to switch allegiances for the day.

New boy Ed Lovatt opened the bowling with John Powell, both of whom did well in restricting the batsmen to 43 for 1 off the initial 13 overs. Fortune

then favoured the brave as both Palmer and P McCoubrey gradually accumulated good innings, although the latter did enjoy the benefit of some helpful

juggling by the Stonor fielders on a couple of occasions. The spin partnership of Jez Mayo and stand-in skipper Olly Nicholson then helped the home team

regain control, aided by some tighter fielding. Thompson and Beckley then upped the tempo towards the end of the innings to set the home team an

interesting target.

Stonor were somewhat dogged in their early reply and Coppid's opening bowlers' consistent line and length allowed only 26 runs during the first 10 overs.

However, once Jez Mayo joined Neil McCoubrey at the crease the run rate soon accelerated. Mayo was eventually run out after making another fine half

century, but the young McCoubrey continued to play his shots and ended unbeaten with an impressive 86 to ensure victory for the home side . Stonor

remain unbeaten this season.
