  On a gloriously sunny September Sunday Stonor entertained Shiplake.  Martin Fennell won a good toss and decided to bat on what looked like a 200+ pitch.  The innings got of to a slightly sticky start with Stonor being 3-3 and then 43-5 with some excellent Shiplake bowling.  Olly Nicholson and Jez Mayo came together with the ball still moving around, hoping to steady the ship.

With Nicholson hitting over 700 runs so far this season it was no suprise to see him reach his 50 but it was a surprise to see a sharp stumping next ball. Another wicket fell and Mayo took control and started to open his shoulders and show his class.  With good support all the way down to number 11 Stonor had recovered well to post 181 all out at tea.

With a competitive total to defend Neil Brown opened up with his usual tight spell but it was Dan Fennell who really caught the eye.  It was not long before his flight and guile started paying dividends with the first of 6 wickets in the dying embers of September sun.  Shiplake were still in with a chance but 181 runs was always going to be a big ask with wickets falling.  With good support bowling from Tom Marshall and John Powell and 7 wickets down
Shiplake had a good spell where a draw seemed a distinct possibility.  With a handful of overs
left a peach of a catch at second slip from Powell and a sharp take from keeper Nigel Allsop
next delivery off the bowling of Ashley Agar had Shiplake 9 down.  The draw was still
marginally favourite until Man of the Match Fennell was recalled to bowl the last man with
11 balls to spare.

What more could the Stonor faithful ask for: fantastic weather; two batsmen reaching 50;
a 6 wicket haul and a Stonor victory.
