Warborough chose to insert Stonor on a damp and slow wicket on Sunday and succeeded in restricting the flow of runs early. After 24 overs and the loss of 3 wickets for 54 it fell to Powell and Mayo to go in search of runs with some excellent running between the wickets. The pair harvested 80 in 11 overs by working the ball well, pushing for quick singles whenever possible. However after Powell's run out, scoring a solid 78 after a lean mid-season, the pace ebbed slightly for the remaining 7 overs before tea and the eventual total of 160 looked attainable.

The Fennell-Pennell opening bowling partnership proved fruitful throughout the Warborough innings, with Andy Pennell bowling medium pace on a tight off stump line and Dan Fennell supporting well with his spin. Dan took a wicket in each of his first three overs, with Andy grazing the outside edge of a bat or off stump on several occasions without luck. After a sharp catch by Dobson, Warborough looked in trouble at 15 for 5. R Beer then chose to consolidate and built a healthy partnership through patient batting and aggressive strokeplay. Agar nearly made the essential breakthrough when a skied pull by Beer was
dropped at deep midwicket, but even when Jay Stick held on to a tricky chance at point
to dismiss Beer the draw proved to be the most likely result.
