Hambleden hosted Stonor at their ground on Saturday for a 40-over encounter. The home team won the toss, inserted the visitors and tight bowling from Evans in particular kept the early scoring to a trickle. At one point Evans bowled 3 consecutive maidens to Fennell before finally pegging his off stump back. Stonor, and particularly Stick, kept their heads despite the slow progress and although found themselves at 41-2 after 20 overs, had retained wickets with the aim of upping the run rate. Skipper Powell started to nurdle the ball around and, after a run out scare when on nought, Nicholson began to open up looking to post a good team total. His 9 fours and 6 sixes were brought up in 10 overs, including one huge six into the local tennis courts and another onto the lawn of Hambleden's 17th century manor house. Rosier then took his second stumping off the wily Arnold and Stonor continued on to post a healthy 192 at tea.

In their reply Hambleden looked to punish any loose deliveries from the start, with Rosier
looking particularly confident on the off side. A run out eventually broke the opening
partnership just when the home side were seeking to dominate. Hambleden were still
on track for victory as Stonor's bowlers failed to capitalise, with Bradford showing good
batting form and extras beginning to take their toll. With 10 overs to go the home side
were still slim favourites until a superb spell from Kapila of 8 overs for only 9 runs, ably
supported by a second spell from the reliable Agar who also took 3 wickets - all bowled.
In the end a spirited chase by Hambleden fell 9 runs short.
